Adult Day Supports Division

To provide adults with intellectual disabilities personal and social growth, through employment, skills training, and leisure activities.

Employment Access

We believe that individuals with intellectual disabilities can aspire to and have typical expectations of worthwhile career options that embody the concept of real work for economic pay and fair recognition

Employment Access supports adults with an intellectual disability in securing a variety of community based work options which may include:  employment, work experience and volunteer opportunities. Based on an individualized planning process, goals are identified as well as the supports and service co-ordination that will be required.   A person may follow one of two pathways when they contact Employment Access.  They may participate in the Transitional Employment Program or Employment Supports.  Community Living Hamilton is an approved service provider for ODSP Employment Supports.

Transitional Employment Program

Employment Supports

All individuals will have an Employment Plan, which identifies their employment goal and the steps to achievement.  The Community Placement Specialist monitors the individual’s progress throughout their plan.  Supports required may include:  a practical skills assessment, job trials, transportation training, and job coaching.  The outcome of the plan must be to assist individuals in securing and maintaining employment.

Community Access

The Community Access Centres (CAC) offer alternatives to vocational training, focusing on teaching adults the activities of daily living required to effectively participate within their community.  An individualized planning approach is used to identify the skills, goals and   supports that the participant will require in order to enhance their personal development.  Using a community based model, skill development may include: hygiene/grooming,  interpersonal relationships;  social behaviour; health and safety;  basic academics; as well as recreational activities and other community learning experiences.

Individualized support in a smaller setting with a strong community awareness component has been realized by utilizing the common area of one of our group homes as a reference point for daily activities.
